Skadden Bolsters Financial Sponsor Team in Germany With Addition of Dr. Matthias Schudlo

Matthias E. Schudlo

Skadden is pleased to welcome Dr. Matthias Schudlo as a partner in the financial sponsor practice in our Frankfurt office. Dr. Schudlo was previously at another global law firm, where he was a partner in its private equity practice.

Dr. Schudlo focuses on private equity transactions, other complex cross-border and domestic mergers and acquisitions, and joint ventures. He advises on large-cap and mid-cap deals, in particular financial sponsor-led auctions and other transactions, representing financial sponsors on both the sell-side and buy-side. In addition to his M&A and private equity work, Dr. Schudlo has significant experience with growth investments, intra-fund transfers, carve-out transactions and joint ventures. He represents clients across a wide array of industries, including software and technology, health care, industrials, transportation and logistics, and consumer goods.

“As we continue to grow the firm strategically around the world in support of our clients, we are excited to welcome Matthias to Skadden,” said Executive Partner Jeremy London. “Matthias has advised on some of the most significant M&A and private equity matters in the region, which makes him an excellent fit for our thriving transactional practices in Germany. Our clients will benefit greatly from his extensive experience and ability to advise on their most complex transactions.”

“Skadden’s private equity practice and client base in Europe, especially in Germany, England and France, have seen substantial growth in recent years,” said Dr. Jan Bauer, head of Skadden’s financial sponsor practice in Germany and head of the firm’s German offices. “Germany has been a critical hub of activity for our clients, and adding Matthias to our team further enhances our client offerings and ability to support private equity clients in this important market.”

“Adding Matthias to the team complements the firm’s recent investments in the financial sponsor space across London, Frankfurt and Paris,” said Richard Youle, co-head of the firm’s financial sponsor practice and head of Skadden’s London office. “I am confident that his extensive experience and deep understanding of the market will be invaluable as we continue to expand our financial sponsor capabilities across Europe.”

“I’ve long admired the Skadden team and am now thrilled to call them my colleagues,” said Dr. Schudlo. “I look forward to working alongside them — not only in our private equity group, but also across the firm’s wider integrated practices — to help our clients navigate the complexities and realize the opportunities of the ever-evolving private equity landscape.”

Dr. Schudlo is fluent in German, English, Chinese, French and Polish. He has been a member of the Frankfurt am Main bar association since 2013 and regularly lectures on developments in corporate law, M&A and private equity for financial sponsors and corporate clients.
