Joshua Redman
Bio
Joshua Redman advises clients on complex cross-border disputes in the financial services, shipping, automotive, real estate, telecommunications, banking, mining and natural resources sectors.
Mr. Redman counsels on a diverse range of contractual arrangements, including agreements to sell shares and entire businesses, license intellectual property, form joint ventures, create share options and security, advance loans and build ships, power stations and aircraft. He has advised on a variety of issues involving contracts, competition law, trusts, economic torts, misrepresentation (fraudulent and negligent), intellectual property and insolvency. Mr. Redman has experience representing clients in proceedings before the courts of England & Wales, Jersey and Hong Kong, as well as in arbitrations administered by the LCIA, ICC, SIAC, DIAC, HKIAC and PCA.
Prior to joining Skadden in 2022, he trained and qualified at a leading international dispute resolution firm in London and Hong Kong.
Mr. Redman’s notable experience at Skadden includes acting for:
- a cryptocurrency exchange in a SIAC arbitration concerning a share purchase agreement breached as a result of the failure to perfect the business transfer of another cryptocurrency exchange
- a leading payment processor in disputes (including a DIAC arbitration) with various financial institutions arising from the payment processor’s exit from Russia
- an e-commerce business in disputes concerning the exercise of share option rights and claims for breach of warranty under a share purchase agreement
- the majority owners of a large Middle Eastern diversified conglomerate in an ownership dispute involving freezing and search injunctions, as well as in claims involving trusts and tracing before the courts of Jersey and Liechtenstein
- a shipping company in a shareholder dispute concerning misrepresentations made by the company’s contractual counterparty prior to the sale of a ferry business
Mr. Redman’s notable experience prior to joining Skadden includes acting for:
- a commodities trading house in an LCIA arbitration concerning a loan to finance a tin mine obtained by fraudulent misrepresentations
- a cement manufacturer in an ICC arbitration concerning a share purchase agreement breached by failure to obtain competition commission clearance
- a banking institution in multiple LCIA arbitrations concerning the breach of facility, joint venture and share option agreements associated with the financing of an Armenian copper mine
- a telecommunications company in an ICC arbitration concerning competition law, FRAND and contractual claims associated with licenses for standard essential patents
- a manufacturing company in an ICC arbitration concerning commission for the sale of naval equipment obtained by bribery
Mr. Redman has assisted numerous pro bono clients, including in inquest proceedings involving the deaths of clients’ family members, as well as other clients in multiple appearances before the Family Court of England & Wales in child arrangement proceedings under the Children Act 1989.
