Bio

Sui-Hang Hui’s practice focuses on international arbitration and dispute resolution. He has broad experience advising on general commercial matters, including proceedings conducted under ICC, HKIAC, SIAC and UNCITRAL rules, as well as before Hong Kong courts and tribunals.

Mr. Hui previously clerked as a judicial assistant at the Court of Final Appeal, the highest appellate court in Hong Kong. In 2024, he was appointed by the Secretary for Justice of Hong Kong as a member of the Expert Advisory Group on Legal and Dispute Resolution Services and appointed by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as a member of the Passports Appeals Board. In addition, he is a member of the Steering Committee of International Bar Association’s Arb40 Subcommittee and the Hong Kong Law Society’s Greater China Legal Affairs and Arbitration committees. Between 2022-24, Mr. Hui was a committee member of HK45, a young practitioner group formed under the auspices of the HKIAC.

Mr. Hui writes and speaks regularly on developments in international arbitration and has been invited as a guest lecturer by various universities, including Beijing Jiaotong University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Peking University, Renmin University of China and Shenzhen University.

Mr. Hui’s representative international arbitration matters (including those prior to joining Skadden) include:

  • a Hong Kong-based hedge fund in a dispute against a project company, including parallel arbitration proceedings commenced before the SIAC and litigation proceedings before Singapore courts
  • a Hong Kong-based hedge fund in a dispute against a major institutional investor, including arbitration proceedings before the HKIAC and winding-up proceedings before the Royal Courts of Jersey
  • a leading global smart energy technology company in a US$1.5 billion dispute against a venture capital firm, including arbitration proceedings before the HKIAC (in addition to emergency relief proceedings), parallel injunction proceedings before the High Court of Hong Kong and winding-up proceedings before the Grand Courts of the Cayman Islands
  • a global private investment firm in a US$200 million dispute against a Chinese entertainment company, including arbitration proceedings before the HKIAC
  • a leading Chinese private equity fund in a US$50 million dispute against a global mobile internet company, including arbitration proceedings before the HKIAC, enforcement proceedings before the Singapore International Commercial Court and set-aside proceedings before Hong Kong courts
  • a leading Chinese real estate developer in a dispute against its investor, including arbitration proceedings before the HKIAC (in addition to emergency relief proceedings) and winding-up proceedings before Hong Kong courts
