Bio

David Hu advises clients on complex cross-border disputes in a variety of industries, including construction, energy, telecommunications, manufacturing and insurance. He has also worked on arbitrations under all major institutional rules, including those of the ICC, LCIA, HKIAC and ICSID. In addition, Mr. Hu has experience representing clients in court proceedings in the U.K. and in a range of other jurisdictions.

Recent representative matters (including those prior to joining Skadden) include acting for:

  • a major mobile telecommunications operator in an ICC arbitration involving the company’s minority shareholder (as well as in parallel proceedings in English courts)
  • a South Asian real estate developer in an LCIA arbitration against a Sri Lankan government entity
  • an oil and gas services company in an LCIA arbitration arising out of an agency agreement
  • an Eastern European manufacturing company in an ICSID arbitration against an Eastern European state
  • the trustees of Bermuda trusts with assets of approximately $20 billion as respondent in the defence of multiple proceedings attacking those trusts

Mr. Hu is dual-qualified in England & Wales and New York. In addition to his practice, he serves as YSIAC Council regional lead for Europe, Middle East and Africa.
