Skadden’s Chicago office, which opened in 1984, offers a variety of transactional, litigation and regulatory services to local, national and international clients doing business in the Midwest and around the globe.
We represent U.S. and international clients, including public and private entities, from a wide range of industries in connection with corporate matters, including those relating to mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings, capital markets, private equity, banking and investment management. We also advise clients in a wide variety of tax, real estate and REITs-related matters. Our litigation attorneys have a robust practice dedicated to representing a broad range of clients, including many in Chicago and throughout the Midwest, in an array of corporate, securities, products liability, bankruptcy, regulatory, white collar, intellectual property and other matters.
Skadden’s Chicago office has an exceptional breadth of experience and resources to serve its clients with innovative advice and novel legal solutions. Our diverse practice area strengths also have been repeatedly noted by the legal and business press. Chambers USA, The Legal 500, Chambers Global, The International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers, The Best Lawyers in America, Financial Times “Innovative Lawyers,” IFLR1000, Tax Directors Handbook, The American Lawyer, Law360 and other publications frequently recognize Skadden’s Chicago M&A, corporate, litigation and regulatory attorneys. In addition, a number of our attorneys formerly have held government positions, including U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, national chief of appeals for the IRS, and Assistant U.S. attorneys for both the Southern and Northern Districts of Illinois.
The Chicago office has played a vital role in the firm’s long-standing commitment to pro bono service and has been active for decades in community leadership positions. Most notably, the office was honored by the Chicago Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights (CLCCR) with the 2017 Law Firm Pro Bono Award, which recognized the office's longtime partnership with the CLCCR and, specifically, the office's most recent work supporting the relaunch of the organization's hate crimes project. We have provided thousands of hours of pro bono legal assistance to local and national organizations handling wrongful conviction, death penalty, immigration and constitutional litigation matters, including before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.
In 2014, the office celebrated its 30th anniversary in the Chicago market. To commemorate the event, the office embarked on a 12-month commitment whereby its attorneys and staff would conduct 30 Acts of Giving as a way to say thanks to our local community. The “Acts” included pro bono representations, community service, various drives, internal fundraisers and a range of other projects that benefitted our community. The organizations were chosen by our attorneys and staff and focus on issues ranging from poverty and hunger to veterans affairs and the environment to education and the arts.
