Skadden Further Expands Financial Institutions Practice With Addition of Partner Michael P. Reed

Skadden is pleased to announce Michael P. Reed has joined the firm as a partner in its Financial Institutions Group. Based in New York, Mr. Reed advises financial institutions, financial technology companies, specialty finance companies, mortgage banking companies, financial sponsor investors and asset management firms on a wide range of M&A transactions and capital markets matters. In addition, he counsels clients, including boards of directors, on regulatory, compliance, disclosure and strategic matters.

“Michael is a recognized leader in his field, with extensive experience and a strong reputation for advising banks and other financial services companies on their most complex and significant M&A and capital markets matters,” said Skadden Executive Partner Jeremy London. “We are thrilled to continue our strategic investments in financial services, and Michael brings tremendous value to our clients as they advance their current and future business goals.”

“The financial institutions sector is constantly evolving, and Michael’s proven track record over nearly 25 years as a trusted adviser is an ideal addition to our industry-leading team,” said Todd Freed, co-head of Skadden’s Financial Institutions Group.

“Michael’s skillset and business experience has immediately proven invaluable in helping our clients navigate regulatory and market shifts as they pursue opportunities to grow and scale, raise capital or seek liquidity options,” said Jeffrey Brill, co-head of Skadden’s M&A Group in New York.

“I’m excited to continue supporting a wide array of financial services companies as they face complex, business-critical issues, now as part of Skadden’s premier platform,” said Mr. Reed. “Skadden is known for delivering sophisticated and creative solutions, and I look forward to continuing our collaborative efforts on a number of matters.”

Mr. Reed provides a unique combination of private practice and business experience. Prior to joining Skadden, he was a partner at another global law firm and served as executive vice president, chief risk officer at WSFS Financial Corporation (WSFS), a publicly traded financial services company. At WSFS, he was a member of the executive leadership team, overseeing risk management and collaborating to drive corporate development, including leading several strategic transactions.

Skadden is also pleased to announce that Wendy M. Goldberg has joined the firm as a counsel in its Financial Institutions Regulatory Group. With more than 20 years of regulatory counseling experience, Ms. Goldberg represents major banks, fintech companies and other financial institutions regarding banking regulation, supervision and enforcement. Her practice also includes assessing the collateral consequences of regulatory and criminal enforcement actions, and she has secured waivers of disqualification from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and other U.S. government agencies. Ms. Goldberg previously served as a special counsel in the Financial Institutions Group of another global law firm.

Last year, Skadden welcomed partners Adam Cohen and Mark Chorazak to its Washington, D.C. and New York offices, respectively, as co-heads of the firm’s global Financial Institutions Regulatory Group, in addition to adding London partner Sebastian Barling, who leads the firm’s U.K. and EU financial institutions regulatory practice. The additions of Mr. Reed and Ms. Goldberg in New York further strengthen Skadden’s ability to provide integrated transactional and regulatory advice to its financial services clients in connection with their most significant matters.

Skadden’s market-leading Financial Institutions Group combines extensive experience across all segments of the financial services industry, including banking, fintech, insurance and reinsurance and asset management. The firm’s global Financial Institutions team advises on the full range of corporate transactions, capital markets and securities law matters, as well as on corporate governance matters and regulatory and compliance issues.
