Outgoing SDNY Deputy US Attorney Andrea Griswold To Join Skadden as Partner

Skadden is pleased to announce that Andrea Griswold, the outgoing deputy United States attorney for the Southern District of New York (SDNY), will be joining the firm in September as a partner in its White Collar Defense and Investigations Group in the New York office. Ms. Griswold’s practice will focus on advising companies, investment funds, financial institutions, boards of directors and individuals in connection with potential criminal and civil enforcement actions, investigations, litigation and trials.

Ms. Griswold served in the SDNY U.S. Attorney’s Office (the Office) for 11 years, rising to the senior-most roles in the Office, including the chief counsel to the U.S. attorney and then deputy U.S. attorney. In these capacities, Ms. Griswold was the principal adviser to the U.S. attorney and oversaw all prosecutions and litigation across the Office. As deputy U.S. attorney, Ms. Griswold was also responsible for the day-to-day operations of the SDNY, including oversight of more than 400 lawyers and support personnel.

Before assuming those front office roles, Ms. Griswold served as chief of the Office’s Securities and Commodities Fraud Task Force, supervising a series of significant individual and corporate investigations and prosecutions concerning market manipulation, insider trading, investor fraud, and accounting and valuation fraud. Many of the cases brought under Ms. Griswold were connected to private funds, SPACs, cryptocurrency and digital assets. Prior to heading the unit, Ms. Griswold investigated and prosecuted through trial a wide variety of significant securities fraud and public corruption cases. Ms. Griswold began her public service career as an assistant U.S. attorney in the SDNY in March 2013, previously spending five years as a white collar litigator at a global law firm.

“Andrea’s impeccable record of success as a tenacious prosecutor and meticulous litigator makes her an ideal fit for our White Collar Defense and Investigations Group,” said Jeremy London, Skadden’s executive partner. “Increasingly, clients are facing criminal and civil investigations and enforcement actions globally. In Andrea, we are adding a next-generation leader of the white collar bar, which enables us to continue to provide the expertise our clients expect in these challenging situations. We are thrilled to have her as our partner at Skadden.”

“Andrea is simply terrific and will be a fantastic addition to our group,” said David Meister, head of Skadden’s White Collar Defense and Investigations Group in New York. “She brings valuable insights into all aspects of investigations, having worked in close collaboration with the SEC, CFTC and numerous other government agencies. She has a second-to-none reputation for digging into every detail in complex matters, including in novel and evolving areas of law. Her impressive and commendable record as a public servant, coupled with her time in private practice, will further enhance our stellar depth of talent. We and our clients will be fortunate to have her guidance for years to come.”

“I am proud of my service in the Southern District of New York, and am fortunate to have developed lifelong relationships with so many throughout law enforcement,” said Ms. Griswold. “In returning to the private sector, I look forward to a long career at Skadden, an elite firm with a phenomenal client base and an unmatched platform. I am excited to collaborate with my new colleagues, some of whom I’ve been close with for many years, to advise clients on their most critical criminal and enforcement issues.”

A graduate of New York University School of Law, Ms. Griswold earned a B.A. degree cum laude from Georgetown University.
