On behalf of News Corp., NI Group LTD, and Rupert and James Murdoch, Skadden defeated a plaintiffs' motion to reconsider the court's prior dismissals of a securities class action arising out of the highly publicized improper news-gathering practices at The Sun and now-defunct News of the World. On September 21, Judge Paul Gardephe of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York agreed with Skadden's arguments that the plaintiffs' attempt to expand the class period was time-barred and reaffirmed his prior dismissal ruling.
