Anadarko Settles Securities Action Arising Out of Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill

Skadden represented Anadarko Petroleum Corporation in reaching the favorable settlement on May 16 of a federal securities class action brought by shareholders alleging they were misled about the company's involvement in the Macondo well that BP was drilling during the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. In July 2013, Skadden secured a victory when the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas dismissed claims related to 27 of the 28 alleged misstatements. In January of this year, the parties successfully mediated the remaining claim.
