The firm mourns the untimely death of our partner, colleague and friend Russell (Toby) D'Oench, 58, a member of our Financial Institutions Group.
A partner at the firm since 2000, Toby was an extraordinary lawyer whose breadth of skills enabled him to do most anything. He handled mergers, acquisitions, equity offerings and other transactions involving public and private investment management firms, broker-dealers and related businesses.
In 1977, Toby founded the North Star Fund, a nonprofit organization that supports grassroots groups fighting for equality, economic justice and peace. Since its formation, the North Star Fund has distributed more than $35 million to almost 1,700 groups advocating for such issues as public schools, civil liberties, human rights and living-wage jobs.
Toby will be deeply missed by his colleagues at the firm. We extend our condolences to his wife, Tani, his children, Miye and Robin, and other members of his family.
