The American Civil Liberties Union of Delaware presented Skadden partner Thomas Allingham with its Gerald E. Kandler Memorial Award for service in the defense of civil liberties. Mr. Allingham was honored on October 7, 2009, with the Kandler Award in recognition of his pro bono work, including his 10-year-long representation of an inmate on death row in Delaware, which culminated in an en banc ruling from the Third U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturning the conviction, as well as his leadership of a team of Skadden attorneys pursuing Establishment Clause challenges to religious practices in a public school district in southern Delaware.
